A ROTARY CLUB STORY
A Joint project of Two Rotary Clubs in Vienna and Chal Foundation Pakistan True to their chosen mission of “Service above Self”, Rotary Club Franz Schubert and Rotary Club Nestroy of Vienna, Austria, joined hands to help the family of a young Afghan refugee. He arrived in Austria some years ago as a teenager; however, his family was not so fortunate – his mother lost one of her lower arms and his young sister her toes during a bomb blast in Quetta. The two Rotary Clubs raise...d funds and established contact with Chal Foundation, a Pakistani NGO initially set up to help Afghan refugees with medical assistance such as prostheses (now available to all who require orthopaedic treatment). Chal Foundation has outfitted the mother and daughter with prosthetic devices, enabling the refugee housewife to undertake household chores, while the young girl can now walk with better balance. The young refugee son has meanwhile learnt fluent German and is living and working legally in Vienna. Helping hands from these three humanitarian organizations on two continents have provided direct help to a refugee family forced to flee its original homeland, and thus demonstrated help and solidarity to communities and families in desperate need of assistance. Many thanks to Mrs. Nasra Hassan who supported and made connections to the Chal Foundation in Pakistan.
